What rotational grazing has given us!
That little purple flower Ady is looking at tells me so much more then that it is simply spring time.
It reminds me of the first spring that it popped up on our property. I am blessed enough to have been raised here on this property most my life and for as far back as I can remember, I have never seen these pretty purple flowers.
Until about 3 years ago, the first spring after we changed from continuous grazing, to rotational grazing with the cattle.
For me, these little purple flowers that like to grow along the delicate ground of the creek banks tells me that our rotational grazing is working! We are keeping the cows from trampling and grazing these areas 365 days a year and that has allowed for seeds to grow that have laid dormant for years.
This year we have some new blue and white flowers popping up in the same areas!
I am far from an expert botanists and I don’t know the names of all the plants or what should/shouldn’t be growing in areas. I just know that I love seeing new plants pop up where they weren’t before!
The first year that these flowers popped up I was scared to pick them because I wanted them to come back. But since they have shown up every year the last 3 years, I am now happy to let the kids pick them and add them to our counter! They smell amazing and are so beautiful!
I can’t wait to see what it all looks like 10 years from now!
